Floating Village 1

This is a catch-up post from Siem Reap. The largest lake in Asia is Tonle Sap. During the rainy season, the Tonle Sap river backs up and swells the lake to up 5 times through the surrounding wetlands. When the dry season arrives, the lake shrinks again. So the fishing families live in floating houses or in houses raised on stilts.

We saw grocery, clothing, hardware, gas and diesel, barbershop, restaurant, basic pharmacare and church boats.

Fishermen use bundles of sticks to anchor the boats ;the houses are anchored at all four corners to stabilize them in stormy weather.
